Using artificial intelligence to reduce energy consumption

Today, artificial intelligence is at the heart of energy savings for businesses. We create virtual duplicates of your machines, known as digital twins, to check which sectors offer the greatest potential for energy and environmental efficiency gains.

Measuring with AI to avoid over-consumption of energy

The comprehensive Dametis solution is designed to meet thousands of requirements on the road to the achievable energy minimum. Let’s be concrete. In particular, it enables the creation of “virtual blocks” similar in every respect to the infrastructures in the field (very similar to the digital twin), which simulate ideal plant operation according to multiple variables and needs, in order to visualize where the plant can make progress in terms of environmental transition. Where humans cannot be omniscient, the MyDametis platform, thanks to its overview, can effectively and instantaneously identify the levers for improvement to be activated, and alert teams if the plant is not operating optimally.

These improvement levers can take various forms, including :

  • machine renovation,
  • limit unproductive energy losses, and sometimes..,
  • training your employees to use the tools at their disposal more efficiently.

Optimizing industrial processes with Artificial Intelligence

Let’s take the example of bringing car paint booths up to the right temperature, a case on which Dametis worked on a hackathon launched by Renault. Basically, the system works as follows: pumps inject outside air, which then passes through a boiler room, to obtain the right temperature in the booth.

The challenge? To know how long it takes for the paint booth to reach its optimum temperature, depending on conditions at time t (temperature, humidity, etc.), so as to avoid systematically expending excess energy.

This is where artificial intelligence helps to limit energy consumption: thanks to data compiled from all previously analyzed situations, the platform is able to define, at time t, how long it will take for the cabin to reach its optimum temperature, depending on current atmospheric conditions. Thanks to the construction of these models, teams can then control their line with full knowledge of the facts, and adapt their process according to the data transmitted by the MyDametis solution.

Staying on course for the energy and environmental transition

While Dametis solutions are invaluable day-to-day tools, they also enable our customers to monitor their efficiency and performance over the long term: growth, yes, but not at the expense of the environmental transition.

Over time, teams grow, plants invest and renew themselves… and it becomes important to control environmental consumption to keep costs under control, but also to limit our carbon footprint. Thanks to our calculation systems, we can more easily visualize these evolutions, and compare them with real needs to effectively re-evaluate existing systems and improve their performance.

Detect possible anomalies

Where departments and trades are sometimes compartmentalized in certain industries, the Dametis solution enables data to be collected using sensors, thanks to a well-thought-out measurement plan. Several similar situations can then be compared, so that the performance of one entity can be used to benefit the whole company.

Let’s take an example we’ve already discussed in this blog, in which we evaluated the use of a compressed air system. We installed a compressed air flow meter, a wattmeter per compressor and a pressure sensor. These tools enabled us to measure all the parameters of the compressed air unit, and a flowmeter per workshop enabled us to compare the consumption of the different workshops.
It is now easy to compare the performance of each workshop and thus detect which consumes the most, at what time of day. The aim? Point out any shortcomings on the one hand, and try to make up for them by observing behavior and the environment on the other. A game of 7 differences…

The MyDametis tool is centralized, and has made it possible to replace the previous solution, which consisted of several separate modules. All data is in one place, saving time and energy! However, users are not drowned in a mass of data, since they can access only the part that concerns them, to be more efficient but also to meet confidentiality requirements on certain subjects.

Modeling to verify the correct operation of a sensor park

Artificial intelligence opens up a vast field of possibilities: energy is a resource that can be worked on as part of the decarbonization process, but only if the data analyzed is correct. From there, another possible application is to use it to identify potential faults in data feedback, linked to a possible failure or malfunction of certain sensors.

Artificial intelligence to reduce energy consumption, reserved for businesses and local authorities

Modeling and artificial intelligence themselves consume energy. If the recommendations they enable are to serve the energy transition, they must result in significant energy savings. This is easily the case for large companies and local authorities. On the other hand, the process will not be profitable on a household scale.

Reduce your company’s energy consumption with artificial intelligence

There are many ways of using artificial intelligence to reduce energy consumption. The opportunities are not always easy to identify in-house. That’s why Dametis is here to help: contact us to discuss your installations and needs. Our experts know from experience where and how to integrate it to achieve real energy savings, and will advise you on effective implementation.
