Discover how Toshiba is charting its path to carbon neutrality with the collaborative platform Dametis
Published on: 27 December 2022
Although we all know Toshiba for its televisions and laptops, the company also has three sites worldwide where printer toner powder is produced.
In Dieppe, home to their only European site, their energy consumption amounts to 17 GWh and is primarily electrical. 70% of this energy is used to produce compressed air, which is used to “blow” on raw material blocks to create a very fine powder.
To optimize their energy consumption related to compressed air production, Toshiba enlisted Dametis a few months ago, initially under an energy performance contract (EPC).

Located in Dieppe for over 35 yearsAnthony Thierry, Technical Manager at TOSHIBA DIEPPE, shares more about the implementation of the Dametis solution:
→ What are the benefits and advantages for the Dieppe site? For the Toshiba group more broadly?
→ How did the solution provided by Dametis reduce the daily energy consumption of the site? du site ?
“Today we have extended data feedback to the electricity part, for the entire site.”
Toshiba chose the Dametis collaborative platform as it was necessary to monitor their energy consumption within the framework of their EPC. Initially, they had data feedback only on compressed air and chilled water. Very quickly, given the platform’s capabilities, they realized that having additional data feedback would be relevant to better control their overall energy consumption. Consequently, they extended this feedback to heating energy and electricity across their entire plant.
“When the platform was implemented, we realized that we could do much more than what was within the contract’s scope, and we had every interest in doing so.”
After training on the platform by one of our Dametis experts, particularly on configuration methods, Toshiba was able to autonomously expand the application scope. Hence the fact that they were able to expand their scope that quickly. This facilitated rapid expansion because they were already equipped with well-known and easy-to-configure measurement systems—“everything was already on the network, so everything was configurable via the Dametis box automatically.”
“In the factory, everyone uses the software.”
Each function finds utility in it at their level. Energy technicians use the playground for in-depth analyses and the synoptics to supervise the data. Besides visualizing data, they can, for example, “get information related to water temperature.” The person responsible for energy contracts and the plant manager use the reporting functionality, allowing them to have a daily, weekly, or monthly overview of the plant’s environmental performance.
“Reports generated by the software are presented to management.”
The top management is not yet directly involved with the platform. However, during management meetings, Toshiba teams present their results and progress using reports they can export directly from the platform. The team is also interested in exploring the corporate reporting functionality that Dametis will soon launch, allowing management to access key consumption and decision-making information. This feature can also be used by their parent company in Japan.
“The platform simplifies our daily work because everything is automated.”
When we asked Toshiba about the results of implementing such a solution, their response was unequivocal: the energy savings are significant, but that’s not all.
Toshiba assures us that the time savings are also considerable: “Before, we had several modules and tools to monitor compressed air and electricity. We no longer use them, so we will switch everything over and centralize on the Dametis platform. We hadn’t found this elsewhere.”
They also told us that such a platform simplifies their daily work, particularly for data collection and analysis due to its automation. “The platform allows us to correlate many different indicators and see which ones are influential. Before, we could do it, but it was much more tedious. Now we do it in two clicks.”
“You provide answers to our questions.”
The company also emphasized an essential aspect: the significant responsiveness of the Dametis teams and the appreciated interaction with their dedicated expert. “This is different from other platforms, which can be static with no interaction or evolution possible.”
